Practice Drills

Type your paragraph here Pickleball Drills to Improve Fast (Beginner to Intermediate) If you want to get better at pickleball quickly, games alone won’t cut it.
The fastest way to improve is by doing simple, focused drills that build consistency and control. You don’t need hours—just 15–30 minutes of the right drills can make a huge difference.
1. Dinking Drill (Control & Soft Game) Goal: Keep the ball low and unattackable. How to do it: Stand at the kitchen line with a partner Hit soft shots (dinks) back and forth Try to keep the ball below net height Challenge: See how many shots you can hit in a row without a mistake Why it works: Improves control Reduces pop-ups Builds patience
2. Third Shot Drop Drill This is one of the most important shots in pickleball. How to do it: Start at the baseline Have your partner at the kitchen line Hit soft shots that land in the kitchen Move forward after each shot Goal: Transition from baseline to the net
3. Volley Drill (Fast Hands) Goal: Improve reaction time and net play. How to do it: Both players stand at the kitchen line Volley the ball back and forth (no bouncing) Keep it controlled—not full power Challenge: Speed it up while staying in control
4. Wall Drill (Solo Practice) No partner? No problem. How to do it: Hit against a wall Practice dinks, volleys, and drives Tip: Mark a “net height” line on the wall and keep shots below it
5. Aim & Target Drill Goal: Improve accuracy. How to do it: Place cones, towels, or targets on the court Aim your shots at specific spots Focus on: Corners Opponent’s feet Kitchen area
6. Transition Zone Drill This fixes one of the biggest mistakes—getting stuck in “no man’s land.” How to do it: Start at the baseline Hit a drop shot Move forward step-by-step Reset and repeat Goal: Get comfortable moving to the kitchen line
7. Partner Consistency Drill Goal: Reduce unforced errors. How to do it: Rally with a partner at medium pace Focus on keeping the ball in play Challenge: Reach 25, then 50, then 100 consecutive shots
8. Smart Shot Selection Drill Goal: Learn when to attack vs. play soft. How to do it: During a rally, only attack balls above net height Everything else = soft shot  This builds discipline fast.   Use the Right Gear for Better Practice The right equipment can make drills more effective and help you improve faster.  Beginner-Friendly Paddle  Great Starter Paddle Set (Paddles + Balls)
